pre-commit auto remove trailing whitespace from java files (#382)

A another big huge auto white space clean up.

Port the main/connectivity complex tests to JUnit, and clean them up.
Also stop packaging them into a JAR file, and delivering this JAR file
to solver, because nothing else uses it, it's just superfl

could probably blame the international nature of the code but
it is somewhat shameful that this wasn't done before.
